“Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead” — James 2:17
James reminds us that we demonstrate our faith by our actions. The needs in our world are varied and overwhelming but when we love our neighbor as ourselves, as Jesus said (Mark12:31), we reach people with God’s love.
Open our eyes, dear Father, to those in need. Allow us to find ways to help meet those needs. Help us to take the focus off ourselves and place it on those who can use our assistance.
Open your heart to God to learn compassion and open your hand to give help.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” — 1Peter5:8
In their natural habitat, the hunger of a lion tell them to go hunting. They seek the young, weak, sick or injured. Peter used “a roaring lion” as a metaphor for Satan. He is a confident predator, looking for an easy prey to devour.
In dealing with this adversary, God’s children must be vigilant at putting “on the whole armor of God” and thus they can “be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” (Eph6:10-11)
No evil can penetrate the armor of God.

“Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken” — Joshua21:45
The newly commissioned leader of Israel, Joshua had hundreds of thousands of Israelites looking to him to lead them. However, God didn’t give him a detailed script, He gave him the assurance that He would go with him.
God said “I will be with you. I will not leave you” (Josh1:5). God commanded Joshua to study and practice everything written in His Word (Josh1:7-8). Joshua responded with complete and surrender to His amazing Guide and “not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken” (Josh21:45).
We too ought to abandon ourselves to our amazing Guide, resting in His faithfulness. Oswald Chambers says “faith never knows where it is being led; it knows and loves the One who is leading”
